Shonen Knife
Shonen Knife
The new Shonen Knife album, Free Time is a product of Japan s invincibility, with nearly three decades of releases and thousands of shows to their credits, the girls of SK offer an English version of their 2010 Japanese release Free Time to the fans in North America. Shonen Knife s latest CD Free Time is hard and is also pop, and it is mellow and kitsch as well. You can listen to those kinds of sounds only on the new Free Time album being released on Good Charamel Records in North America on August 31st 2010 with 2 US bonus tracks. This is an exposition of the Rock. Shonen Knife is also joined by Osaka comedians 50 Kaitenz on the album as guest vocalists.

In 2007, they released an album fun! fun! fun! in Japan (an English language version will be released on vinyl in the US for the upcoming Free Time tour in September of 2010). Over the past few years they ve been very busy playing lots of shows, performing on a kids album for Powerpuff Girls with a video aired daily on Cartoon Network, they enjoyed a successful 2009 North American tour, recorded a cover song for an AC/DC tribute album and played at many, many rock festivals including Matt Groening s All Tomorrow s Festival in the UK and Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas. Their 2009 Supergroup tour titled Shonen Knife Live at the Mohawk is to be released on Good Charamel DVD in July of 2010 in the USA.
Habibi
Habibi
Habibi is the brainchild of Rahill Jamalifard and Lenny Lynch. Together, the two Detroit natives started the all girl, Brooklyn based project in the spring of 2011. Growing up with the harmonious sounds of Motown and the punk attitudes of Quatro and Iggy, their music invokes the same simplicity and fiery spirit. Jamalifard's Persian ancestry and Lynch's love of Middle Eastern culture are evident in the bands name (Habibi's translation is my love in Arabic), their mystical lyrics, and their eastern tinged melodies. In the short span of time since their formation Habibi has captured the interest of audiences and labels abroad, eager to hear more of their simple and catchy songs. The four piece featuring Erin Campbell, on bass and Karen Isabel on drums look forward to their upcoming single and their first full length album.
The Suzan
The Suzan
The Suzan are a pop-rock band from Tokyo, Japan. Formed in 2004 by sisters Rie (keyboards and vocals) and Saori (guitar and vocals). Soon they added school friends Nico (drums) and Ikue (bass) where their sound has been variously described as riot-grrl, pop and punk, and also incorporates elements of jazz, soul, surf and dance music. After releasing an EP "Suzan Kingdom" (2004) and then "Suzan Galaxy" (2007) on super cool Japanese indie label ROSE RECORDS, The Suzan toured throughout Europe creating an army of fans wherever they played.

Their irresistible charm captivated Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John – whom they convinced to produce their album with a MySpace message. The resulting album "Golden Week For The Poco Poco Beat" (2010) found its way to tastemaker indie label Fool's Gold, (Kid Sister, Kid Cudi and Duck Sauce) to release the album worldwide.

The first single, "Home" captured high praise for its unique blast of fun with it's sweetly funky, hard-to-pin-down pop. This set the stage for the press to follow for the LP Golden Week For The Poco Poco Beat. The Suzan have since gathered the reputation as one of the most unique groups out there. Even The Suzan's cover versions of bands like Miike Snow and The Strokes have created viral buzz on Twitter with stars like Mark Ronson and Amanda Palmer raving about them. Even the NFL picked up the bands fun vibe by using The Suzan song "Come Come" in a NFL Verizon TV campaign for the 2011 NFL season. Their latest video for "Ha Ha Ha" was part of the DELL computer online "Create.Work.Inspire" campaign.

Since camping in New York in 2011, The Suzan have build a rabid fanbase from their exciting live show with tours with bands like Chromeo, Peter Bjorn and John, Titus Andronicus, Datarock, Zambri and playing the hottest club parties with local bands in all of New York and Brooklyn. 2013 brings a Documentary film on The Suzan -"The First Step" by famed Mike Nogami showing the band's self assured efforts into taking on taking on the world. The band has just returned from some touring in Japan and Sweden with a new album produced again by Bjorn Yttling that along with touring will keep the band busy in 2013.
